AFP sweeps "Spot News stories" at World Press Photo 2016

AFP photographers swept the "Spot News stories" category at the 2016 World Press Photo awards, the world's premier photography prizes.

The first prize went to Syrian photographer Sameer Al-Doumy for his series on the effects of aerial bombardments on rebel forces in Douma and Hamouria. The second place went to Roberto Schmidt for his coverage of the avalanche on Everest. The third place went to Bulent Kilic for his series on Syrian refugees fleeing into Turkey.
